Topic Description:

How stereotypes undermine the interest and success of women in science and math. Ms. Mason will present research demonstrating the emergence of stereotype threats and the ways in which we can intervene to prevent the harmful influence of this stereotype threat.

Meet Our Speaker:

As Director of Admissions at The North Carolina School of Science & Mathematics (NCSSM), Letita Mason oversees all aspects of student recruitment. She has a personal committed to assist others in fulfilling their highest potential – and a professional commitment to market the school to the external community, establish admissions policies, and ensure each class is filled with qualified students.

Prior to joining NCSSM, Ms. Mason spent eleven years in education. Through her career she has learned it is essential to relate to others, thirst for knowledge, and understand people, culture and history in order to forge successful strategic initiatives.

Ms. Mason has a Masters of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in English. She is currently working towards a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Leadership Studies from NC A&T State University – a degree program fostering an approach in the preparation of leaders.
