If YOU Build it…  They Will Come:

Building a Barn to The Barn

Keynote Speaker: Van Eure

Van Eure, a Philanthropist, a Leader, a highly decorated Award winner, and the Owner of The Angus Barn, will share her unique perspective & experience in creating a world-class family owned restaurant, lovingly known as The Barn.

Van began waiting tables at the Angus Barn throughout high school and college.  She taught High School English in Kenya, East Africa for 2 years, and then opened her own Elementary School in Kenya (1978-1982). When she returned to the US, she began working at her family’s restaurant. She has held every position ranging from waitress, to Senior Dining Room Manager, to General Manager. Unfortunately, due to her father’s untimely passing, she and her mother, Alice Eure, teamed together and ran the Angus Barn for 9 years; until Alice’s death in 1997.

Today, this family restaurant has become a staple in our community and is well-known across the US. Today, the Angus Barn employs 360, seats 725 customers, plus 400-1000+ in the Lakeside Pavilion & 400 at Bay 7 at the America Tobacco Company.

We are fortunate to have this intimate conversation facilitated by

     Ashley Simons-Rudolph, Ph.D.

Ashley Simons-Rudolph, PhD is a faculty member of Women’s and Gender Studies at NC State and Editor in Chief for Gender Issues, a multidisciplinary, international journal.  She is a graduate of NC State University, and earned her PhD in Gender and Social Policy from The George Washington University in Washington DC.

In her research and work in higher education, Ashley has worked in diverse communities ranging from Native American reservations to sub-Saharan Africa, Washington, DC and Cairo Egypt. In 2016, Ashley started her own company, Simons-Rudolph Consulting, LLC and is always looking for opportunities to creatively grow projects through research, analysis, program evaluation, and writing.
